This is an exciting project I've been researching for the past five years. It focuses on the Kashmir shawls woven during the reign of Maharaja Runjit Singh and will feature some of the best examples of these extremely graphic weavings drawn from collections around the world. A call for images has been sounded.
I ask all of you shawl aficionados to join me in this effort in helping me to collect images of any great shawls from this era that you might be aware of. Because museums have paid scant attention to such pieces, few are found even in the best institutional collections. However, I am quite aware that many have been bought up over the years by private individuals. If you happen to be one of them and would like to have your piece featured in my new book, with due credit, by all means please contact me here in New York: email:
