Chandigarh. The Punjab Government has decided to build Punjab Bhawan in Nanded, Maharashtra, to mark the Guru-ta-Gaddi diwas in October 2008. The event is planned to commemorate the consecration of the Guru Granth Sahib and Parlok Gaman of Guru Gobind Singh.

The government has cleared a grant of Rs 7 crore for the bhawan that will be built near the Sachkhand gurdwara by the local gurdwara management committee headed by PS Pasricha. The land and rest of the money will be given by the local committee.

The construction of the bhawan, which will have 144 rooms and 10 suites, will be completed by October. The state government will have a quota of some 60 rooms, booking for which will be done from Chandigarh.

“The Chief Minister’s office passed the orders, and the soon the Finance Department will release the grant,” said a senior government functionary. It is estimated that about 25-30 lakh pilgrims from all over the world will participate in the eight-day festivities.

It is expected that pilgrims will start arriving three days prior to ‘Takhat Snan’, which will be held a day before Diwali, and leave two days after Parlok Gaman.
