CM goes liberal with grants for Maharaja’s village.
Paying rich tributes to Maharaja Ranjit Singh on his birth anniversary at a state-level function here today, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced the setting up of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Memorial Adarsh School at Badrukhan village, the birthplace of the Maharaja.
The school will be built at a cost of Rs 3 crore and the construction will begin in three months.
The Chief Minister also announced that a statue of the Maharaja would be installed at the village by developing a park on an acre. Badal also gave cheques for Rs 50,000 each to five families whose members had died of gastroenteritis some months ago at the village.
He announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the buildings of the village’s primary and senior secondary schools and a grant of Rs 3 lakh for the renovation of the veterinary hospital, Badrukhan.
He also gave an assurance to the villagers that he would send sufficient funds for the development of three cremation grounds and a bus stand.
Responding to a demand made by the secretary-general of the SAD Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Badal announced construction of a pucca road from Ubhawal village to Badrukhan village.
He also announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh for the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Youth Sports Club, Badrukhan, for setting up a gymnasium and constructing a room.
Badal criticised the Amarinder government for not celebrating the birthday of Maharaja Ranjit Singh during its five-year tenure.
Among others who paid tributes to the Maharaja included Dhindsa, Punjab PWD minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, chief parliamentary secretary Sital Singh, MLA from Dhuri Iqbal Singh Jhundan, former MLA from Barnala Malkiat Singh Keetu and district president of the BJP Jatinder Kalra.
Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the statues of Sham Singh Attari and Akali Phulla Singh, the generals of the Maharaja, at the complex of Yadgar Gurdwara Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Badrukhan.
He also inaugurated a state-level senior volleyball championship for boys and girls on the occasion here.
