Himachal Pradesh assembly unanimously passes a resolution for setting up a private university at Baru Sahib, named as Eternal University.

Rajinder Singh, General secretary of 'Kalgidhar Educational trust Society Baru Sahib' said over phone from New Delhi said that the letter of Intent has issued to the trust in September last within a month all the government conditions were complied with by The Kalgidhar Trust.
 
This university will be the first private Sikh university in the world, and is the practical realization of a century old vision of Sant Attar Singh Ji Mastuana Wale.

He said that this university would be a broad-based university with a multi-discipline approach.

Under this university, 11 professional colleges in the field of Engineering, Health Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Teachers' Training, Business Administration, Public Health, Naturopathy and Alternative Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, Divine Music and Spirituality, Medicine and Distance Learning will be set up.

'Eternal University' is the 1st ever-private university of the Khalsa Panth in its history of 500 years". It will focus on higher academic standards via collaborating with the universities of leading nations. It is a University for the upliftment of rural population. All the proceedings of 'Eternal University' will be run only by the support of Sikh Sangat all over the world.

Eternal University will lay a considerable emphasis on value based education to nurture and groom worthy global citizens. The graduates of this unique educational system will not only be excellent in academics but will also have high moral values. They will have love for humanity, compassion for the weak and commitment through selfless service for mankind. In a way, the graduates will work towards establishing permanent peace and universal brotherhood in the world as envisaged by the founding father Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj of Mastuana and Sant Teja Singh Ji.

The guiding force of Eternal University is Baba Iqbal Singh (former Director, Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh and President of The Kalgidhar Trust), who is ably assisted by several eminent educationists like Dr. Khem Singh Gill (Vice-President of The Kalgidhar Trust and former VC, PAU, Ludhiana) and Dr. MS Atwal (VC of the proposed university).
