In a move, which is likely to invite stiff criticism from heritage lovers and conservationists, the SGPC has invited tenders for installing ACs, CCTVs and jammers inside the complex. A representative of a multi-national AC company told the SGPC that the holes would have to be made in the ancient structure of the sanctum sanctorum to install the AC. The first two are a security requirement for the entire complex and meet everyone's approval, but the ACs are meant for Golden Temple. A SGPC sub-committee which met at Chandigarh on Thursday to deliberate on the issue, took technical details from a representative of a company to determine whether the move would cause any long-lasting damage to the nearly 400-year-old building that has born the brunt of restoration efforts by those who have scant idea of either heritage or means of conservation. The fears of those resisting the AC installation move were confirmed when the representative of the company told members that this would require at least "boring a minimum 4" hole in the wall for the wiring." The matter has now been referred to design consultants, sources said. Chairman of the committee Raghujit Singh Virk, however, told TOI: "We haven't taken a decision, deliberations are still on." The move, it is learnt, was initiated about an year back, after a political VVIP started visiting the Darbar Sahib once a month. Some of the ragijathas are also learnt to have complained of the tremendous humidity inside the shrine, especially during afternoon hours. SGPC president Avtar Singh was asked to explore the possibility of installing ACs, but some of the members are learnt to have expressed dissent saying it was technically not feasible without causing damage to the historical building Gurmeet Rai, conservation architect and director, CRCI, while strongly opposing the proposed move said such attempts would cause colossal 'structural damage' to the ancient holy structure. Instead, the SGPC should improve the electrical infrastructure since big holes had been made in the building after laying cable for the live coverage of kirtan. She said the devotees visited the Darbar Sahib for spiritual solace and not for physical comforts and, hence, they (devotees) had never made any such demand till date. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This is absolutely incredible. Personally I think that even the electric fans should not have been put up. If the large 'manual' fans operated by sevadars were adequate for the likes of Maharajah Ranjit Singh ji and the raagis of yore - what is so special about the 'panthic leaders' and raagis of today ? Even allowing for 'global warming' and the messing up of the environment around Harimandir Sahib (largely as a result of the incompetence, negligence and down right selfishness of those entrusted with such high responsibilities) this proposal should be a complete non-starter. If persons are coming to Harmandir Sahib to look for creature comforts they should not be there. This is even before we start considering issues such as the need to minimise the size of carbon foot prints etc How come previous generations have managed to enjoy the sublime beauty of Shabad Keertan without feeling such 'discomfort' ? We have lost more than enough of our heritage through misguided and ill motivated interference and wanton destruction. No more. We should nip this madcap 'initiative' in the bud. It is time to take active steps to claim back our heritage from those whose priorities are self promotion and personal advancement - even at the cost of our history, culture, heritage and values.

Ah, it is okay. Do not worry. Our enlightened "leaders" have destroyed so much else, that even this should be okay. Who knows, perhaps AC would preserve some of the edifice or various artwork. After all, all museums are air conditioned too. And remember, having our ragis and granthis and other people all sweaty can not stand.

No damage at all must be done to the building - certainly not big holes with pipes and wires leading in and out. That would be extremely ugly. Sounds like there been no thought put into this and they're just going for a standard 'office AC solution' . Harminder sahib is a small building and therefore even a small change is immediatley visible. A very silly idea !!! Count me in on any inititative against this thing !!

We can not believe what we are reading! What is the problem with those who are supposed to be custodians of our heritage even consider such installing an AC in harmandir sahib. This will be so damaging to the building that it does not bear thinking about. Enough has already been distroyed already and we should be bending over backwards to save and preserve what is left of our beautiful buildings and artwork rather than bending over backwards to indulge the whim and pander to the ridiculous suggestion of a VIP who feels a little uncomfortable sitting in the heat! (Perhap if his mind were more focussed on the kirtan he has presumably gone to listen to he would not notice the heat). If this VIP can't take the heat then tell him not to come! We are totally against this AC scheme.

Wow..I like how the tables have turned. And we've done so ourselves! I feel like this kind of desecration of the Gurudwara is far worse than the previous attacks (physical and otherwise) on the Harimandir Sahib complex. And have we become so weak that we are willing to take steps just to we can feel a little cooler when inside the Gurudwara? Um, ok..let's just completely disregard how Guru Arjan Dev Ji was martyred (in the heat..with heat..) and instead allow a political figure to disfigure the building in a way that will jeopardize its structure (..and who knows what other implications this is going to have in the years to follow...) Great plan! ugh!

Who is this political 'VVIP' at whose instance this move has been initiated? Why should [some of] the ragi jathas feel the tremendous humidity and the discomfort inside the shrine now when all the distinguished Kirtani Jathas have been performing Kirtan at Sri Darbar Sahib for many centuries? In my view the SGPC should not even consider installing the Air Conditioning System as it would definitely weaken/damage the ancient structure of the building. Above all, the multi-national AC company concerned and others will agree with that for the A.C. system to work effectively the entire building would have to be thoroughly sealed including the existing doors and the windows that would defeat the whole object of having all doors open for people of all faiths regardless of their caste, colour, creed or status. Like many experienced professional people, I oppose the proposed Air Condition System Installation in Sri Darbar Sahib sanctum sanctorium and fully support most commenndable efforts of conservation architect, and heritage lover Ms Gurmeet [Kaur] Rai in opposing the move. Swaran Singh Panesar Leeds, West Yorkshire

I am not surprised the ragi jathas have complained. This is all down to a certain Jatha from Birmingham who took it on themselves (without any expert opinion) to install a rubber membrane in the roof and further added to problems by using a cement based mixture to bond there dodgy gold plating to the inner marble structure of the Harimandir Sahib. All of the actions undertaken by the Birmingham Jatha have caused these problems. Is it not time that the Khalsa Panth bought this Jatha to account for their destruction activities.

SGPC..its time that you start going what you were created to do..preserve the Gurduaras not destroy them..

Respected Khalsa ji, I think we should not go forward with the idea of installing the airconditioners in Sri Harmandir Sahib. This would definitely cause damage to the sanctum santorum. I would encourage everybody to think from the perspective of saving our heritage for the future generations and not from the perspective of personal comfort. Just a thought: How would have Taj Mahal looked today if every political leader had tried to modify it as per his/her whims and fancies. Its time we realize that we are here in this world for a short time and we should spend our time in great humility serving our brethren. Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter. WJKK, WJKF.

Pyare Khalsa Ji Gur Fateh! I am still in a state of disbelief on this matter. As I was reading this sad news I recalled an event that took place in the last week of January 1986. After the Sarbat Khalsa (January 26, 1986) decided to rebuild the Akal Tahkt Sahib and demolish the GOI sponsored Kar Sewa built Akal Takht, a district president of All India Sikh Students Federation requested to the Sadhs and Babas' of the time to save some the brusied historic walls and bruised minakari. I reckon all he wanted was just an evidence of the fact that the Indian forces attacked Akal Takht Sahib and we had evedence to that effect. But apparently under a deep rooted conspiracy the Kar Sewa Babas' and Sadhs demolised the evidence to rebuild what we see today, a new Akal Takht Sahib. After 21 years we are doing worse than what happened during the re-building of the Akal Takht Sahib. We are purposely playing with the emotions of the Sikhs and the sad thing is that, if there is not enough momentum to staop this (halla-gulla) these plans will go through. Please do your utmost to stop this invasion. Akal Sahai!

The proposal for air conditioners is an absolute disgrace. If royalty like Maharajah Ranjeet Singh can stand the "heat and humidity" then the vvip leader certainly can. i just cant understand, why we are hell bent on destroying our most sacred monuments. we perhaps our the only people in the world who want to destroy centuries old buildings to make way for new ones. if this vvip cant stand the heat, he is better of staying at home. There should be absolutely no fiddling around with the sanctum santorum.its our heritage and we have a right to preserve it

please do not do more damage to our heritage as they did in its 400 years history but now it is sad to hear that this damage is coming from our side. we should save each & every brick of it. What our coming generation will see would be a renovated "Sri Harminder Sahib" with no originality & this would be injustice to them.

I totally agree with Tavleen Kaur / Santokh Singh Chhokar. SGPC you were created and supported to preserve Gurudwaras and Sikh Heritage and NOT destroy it, STOP THIS MADNESS RIGHT NOW you have done enough damage to SIKHISM. Mrs Indira Gandhi is blamed for the destruction of Sri Akaal Takht and damage to Sri Darbar Sahib (1984), who will be blamed and is responsible for the damage to be caused by this A/C Madness and will the person responsible be met with the same fate as Mrs Indira Gandhi? Who is this "VVIP"? VVIP please identify yourself !! Who is this multinational company? If this VVIP & Raagi Jatha's can not maintain & respect the originality of Sri Harimandir Sahib then they do not have to be there there are plenty other "Temples" where they can go. SGPC stop appeasing your paymasters and for once in your life do Sikhi Sewa & appease GURU SAHIB JI. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE ORIGINAL SRI HARMANDIR SAHIB.

The SGPC are only custodians of this sacred shrine, they should do their utmost to preserve this gem, and not vandalise it at every ill thoughtout opportunity. When will we Sikhs realise, that at this rate, we will have no heritage left to pass on to subsequent generations.

SGPC has never been serious about heritage because members of the SGPC have no broad vision. They do not understand the importance of heritage.Sikh pray in daily prayer Ardas Jhande Bunge jugo jug Atal,in the same time they are demolishing the Bungas.there is no need of ACs and CCV s can be installed wthout damaging the building. So heritage conservation should be the first priority.I have been suggessting the SGPC in form a Heritage Cell which include INTACH ,Sikhscho;ars and NGOs wrking for heritage

Pyaareyo - although your intentions may be honorable to install air conditioning in consideration of those within the Gurudwara Sahib, the implications of such an installation may prove to be quite detrimental from an architectural standpoint. The entire complex of Harimandar Sahib is built from solid, non-porous material which is not meant to be drilled, bored, removed, cut/patched, or tampered with in any way. Stone walls serve as the buildings fortification and are intended to be inflexible. The inherent design of Sri Harimandar Sahib relies on these strong solid structures to remain as per their original configuration. Installing air conditioning in the methods being discussed is not intelligent. I do agree with some of the earlier comments that air conditioning is also not a necessity - ESPECIALLY in such a location. Guru Sahib has remarkably placed Sach Khand in the midst of a Sarovar. Despite all the metaphorical implications of this design, I have no doubt that it was also a very practical approach as well. Imagine how intense the heat would become in this complex if even water wasn't present! Surely, countless keertaneeaa and other sevadaars have managed without air conditioning. Nevertheless, if air conditioning is to be added to Harimandar Sahib (after all - fans were installed a few decades ago to help assist with the heat), there are many smart, simple and relatively unintrusive methods of upgrading the building in order to provide a more comfortable environment for Guru's Sangat. Please get in touch with an educated Mechanical Engineer and a Registered Architect who can both devise a clever, yet effective way to install air conditioning into the building WITHOUT boring holes, damaging walls, installing large cooling units, and ruining the architectural value of the most prominent building in our heritage. Please feel free to contact me (click on my name to send an email) if I can be of any assistance in this matter. We need to preserve our buildings and heritage to the utmost degree!! Without compromising Guru Sahib's original intent.

Why is everyone surprised by this suggested move of the committe? We (the public) is constantly fighting for the conservation of our heritage while the supposedly custodians keep coming up with creative ways to Destroy it. But we will keep fighting. The custodians are only motivated by what gets them the votes, THEY do not care about conservation. Brothers and sisters please spread the word, we have to fight this move.

Dear SGPC, Please do not install any ACs and leave the sacred building alone. You have been appointed for the upkeep of our sacred heritage. Please do not destroy it. Wahe Guru ji ka Khalsa

Once again... the suggestion is absolutely ridiculous for all the reasons that have already been mentioned. Sometimes it feels just as insane dignifying proposals of these sorts with a response. Apologies for the negative tone but I as others am becoming a bit disheartened about the lack of concern for the preservation of our religious heritage. Please do not install air conditioning at the Harmandir Sahib. Also if other modern day electronic mechanical equipment can be avoided... please let it be avoided.

Ps. Apologies my comment was impulsive and I didn’t give real reasons as to why I think the air conditioning shouldn’t be installed. It often requires ducting The plant is bulky and unattractive And extract requirements will involve boring holes in the existing structure Mechanical air conditioning is environmentally unsound And above all: I believe It really is a shame to spoil the authenticity of historical Gurdwara buildings. Once again: apologies for the initial "reactive" comment.

This is absolutely outrageous! Is the SGPCS testing for reactions, as many politicians do, or is it simply they do not have much common sense representation? In either case we should start asking the question why the SGPC exists. Maybe its time for a new management structure for the Sikh cause. Threat of withholding funds; or encouraging people to do so, maybe one way to bring pressure to bear.

I have a slightly different view , First of all I think the custodians should focus on sorting out the real issues in and around Sri Darbar Sahib. Having said that I also wouldnt oppose installing air conditioners as long as the heritage has been preserved with utmost care.e.g. boring holes in the wall wouldnt be acceptable , also I am suprised that no one has yet thought of a creative solution to this problem given that technology today has grown so much. I am sure the vendors can think of an alternative solution without damaging the heritage of the building.

Please don't do this. Its not your house that you are going to remodel Its History Don't mess with it !!!!!!!!

Someone hsould start a petition before this gets out of hand, remember even the Gurus were answerable to us, the sangat, together we are strong. It is time we view, value and take responsibilty for our religion and heritage collectively instead of leaving it up to a few men ( the SPGC), then complain when they start doing things like this. If we continue to abuse our heritage in this way, the holes we put in this buliding will end up in our religion too. We are all responsible for passing on Sikhi to the next generation, the flaws of the SPGC are only there beacuse we allow them to be. Waheguru Ki ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

Please no.

In order for AC to be effective they will then ask for all the doors to the Center Sanctorum be closed. But Let the ccol breeze of Sarovar around the Temple keep the divine gathering stay cool inside by entering thorough these open doors. the way it was intended. Instead of AC, I would suggest that these soft and tender VVIP's be asked to stay put at home, for in the house of God, especially from Sikh point of View, all should be considered equal. There is no VVIP and there is no weakling. If Guru Arjun Dev Ji wife could walk barefooted to Baba Budda's place in the peek of summer day to seek her wishes fulfilled why can't these VVIPs stay in non-AC house of Divine for couple of minutes? Sangat is not complaining. Let the wisdom prevail. Let our heritage be allowed to survive. We have seen enough damage. No more. Wake up these so called Guardians of my faith. Play not any more with our emotions and play not with Sikh History! Do what you were supposed to do to spread the message about Sikh faith around the world by teaching your children and youth about our faith and about our identity rather than messing with what little we have been left with.

A big nooooooo.

The SPGC should be concerned with upholding the basics of Sikhism before going on to complex projects out of the range of their thinking capacity...things like i dont know maybe understanding (not granting, its already granted by a power much higher than them) rights for wemon to do ANY seva in Harmandir Sahib (including doing keertan) or maybe even sitting inside darbar sahib when keertan is going on (call me crazy). I think they could POSSIBLY have good intensions from this AC idea, but lets think with common sense...the Gurdwara has more than one door, and those doors will be opening and closing every 2 minutes of the day....an AC only works in a building that can have the doors closed for a long period of time :) .... just a few thoughts -WJKK WJFK

I totally oppose to the above comments suggested by my dear fellows. Why because i hope we all remember when Indira tried to demolish Darbar Sahib and already demolished Akaal Takhat, what was the reaction an ordinary Sikhs has to face. Riots happened, lives lost, sikh population decreased, not mentioning about wealth lose etc.etc.,. In other words i say that if they take quick action to demolish it, they may face big reaction. Why may, because they will be able to stop reaction by force as they did in Punjab in 1984 by employing army just to stop the reaction in Punjab after riots took place in other parts of India. Smart move, is'nt it. Now even more smartest and political move, they wants to destroy it by [SGPC] so called sikhs committee ruled by BJP, if reaction happen sikhs will oppose or do damage to sikhs itself, means crise in community, means a normal Sikh would start disliking the religion itself, means as Budhism and Jainism almost vanished from India so that we will be. too. Dont you all should say SGPC is bad because they are not for Sikhs anymore. I hope and pray like Guru Gobind Singh ji did burned Masands alive because they have crossed the limits and start doing the same as SGPC is doing now to our heritage and culture and religion, would burn these stupids, uncultured, uneducated idiots alive. Fateh Ji.

I will have to agree with Karan on this, installing an A/C shouldn't be a problem as long as no one messes with the structure and with the modern technologies available there should be a solution. I am all up for preserving our precious heritage but on the same token raagis are human too and indian summer combined with humidity can be tough at times. My apologies to any one who is offended by my thoughts but i do want to put my true thoughts forward on this.

I would like to ask Amarmeet Singh, Is it the type of the summer started this year in India. Dear freind it was there from centuries . Actually its the state of mind that when you are doing or listening Gurubani that what state you are in. May be if you are deeply into Gurucharna de wich, you don t even realise where you are sitting, hot or cold or oversees. You can see Darbar Sahib even sittin in LA aswell. Guru Arjun Dev ji sat on hot plates, realising nothing, did taught us same thing. Please this does not means that i don t use Air Cons. but this is the question of heritage and originality. Not trying to offend you if you are sikh bro.

I TOTALLY OPPOSE AGAINST AC FACILITIES ASI SAD SAGAT KEYWAL GURBANK SUNAE JADEY HAI NAI KI UTHEY KI HA KI NAI BAS WAHE GURU KA KHALSA WAHE GURU JI KI FATHE

A very BIG NO for AC installation in DARBAR SAHIB ,Amitsar ,because sangat comes for solace/mental peace & not for 5star physical comforts. Our Guru Sahibs had avery strong foresight as by positioning of Darbar Sahib in big Sarover itself causes cool cross ventilation. This act will no doubt damage the heritage value of this holy shrine. May Our Guru sahibs give some good thought to our so called managersSGPC not to misuse their position, theySGPC are Sewadars & not Owners. This comment is with intention to maintain our high sikh heritage & not to hurt anyone Bolo fateh ji

Ther must be other ways found if it is a must to air condition the Harmander Sahib The Ancient was and the structure must not be damaged. I think the experts can be consulted with a perecondition that the ancient walls not be damaged and still the Airconditioning can be done. There are examples of extaorinary engineering for special buildings all over the world and we can take lessons from them.

Guru fateh, what are you expecting from SGPC, the so called coustodian of sikh shrines, they are here only to please their political boses, who choose them, & use them for their selfish motives, in reality they have no respect for sikhi, their cultures & shrines. it is all for Golak. One day they come with suggestion, no need of Ragis, install TV & VCD players ( like radha Soamis). So those who feels discomfort at Gurudawaras, pl. stay at their AC homes.

This is totally unacceptble. WE should preserve our Gurus possessions. WE should look after them and alter them for the sake of some so called Granthis who are sweating whilst meditating. When you are sincerely nad deeply thinking about Guru Ji, neither heat or cold can stop you.

Sayth Nanak ---Asankh Chor Haram Khor........... Amita Singh

ridiculous! how can air -conditioners be put up in a historical building! are you guys mad or what? If you want this idea to get through consider portable ones not the one you bore on the golden temple. I have always been fascinated by the golden temple, don't destroy the love it has been embedded in the making of such a work magnificent structure. Do you see this happening to the taj mahal or kaaba in mecca where it is much more hotter????

Guru Fateh.Age Sikha The Mann Pakee Hondee si Per Gurudaware Kache, Aj Sika De Mann Kachee Ne The Gurudware Pake. So, please no to it.

I don't understand why suddenly SGPC has felt the need to install ACs in Darbar Sahib.People have been going there since centuries and I am sure nobody is even aware of the climate/temperature etc. while inside Darbar Sahib and in fact the whole campus. Somebody suggested to install ACs without causing any damage to the building , I am not sre whther that is possible.Dont you need to keep the doors closed if AC is to be effective?? Will you accept closing the doors or even putting up glass doors and going against the veruy foundation of Harimandir sahib to be always open to people coming from all directions (some say people of all four varnas)?? Another stupid suggestion recently was to destroy the historic Guru Ka Baag where Guru Arjun Dev ji had edited Adi Granth, and construct a concrete building in its place, probably a mall. Does anyone know what happened to that 'proposal' of SGPC?

Tomorrow they would like to have a Helipad in the golden temple for the VVIP. this is ridiculous.

Tomorrow they would like to have a Helipad in the golden temple for the VVIP's, because VVIP's are uncomfortable traveling by road. this is ridiculous.

Gur Fateh, It's very sad to know that SGPC is a body of peoples that do not understand the reality of Guru's faith. They are just doing what ever is good for them. It's time for a new and educated body who can understand the reality of our heritage. Guru knows what is right or not. That's why they have four doors one on each side which can bring fresh air from one side and pass through the other. There should be no damage done to the sanctum sanctorium. Air conditioning is not good for enviorment. Please leave it alone.

read this most important about the ac plan for darbarsahib

i think indira gandhi she was create so politics against the sikh people and at that time there was so much people die in the year 1984 every people know but i want to say sgpc dont have authority to waste the darbarsahib money. if u want to do some thing good help poor sikh community stand our sikh youngster

hey i totally agree with Amita Singh! ""Asankh Chor Haraam Khor""- Guru Nanak Dev Ji. i think this is soo crazy!!! AC??? for who??? tryin to fit AC in such a hertitage pacted building is impossible and shouldnt be allowed! our priceless history contained in paintings and architecture will be destroyed! i also agree with the big Pakay which are wafted by sevadaars as was done to Maharajay.- beautiful idea! dont waste the money which belongs to the darbarsahib- if u dont have anything better give it to charity! atleast it will get used for good and well being of all.

Dearest ones, please, don't install ACs in the Darbar Sahib. It is so beautiful like it is. ACs are not so good for the earth atmosphere. It is an american comfort and a curse to do so. It will make the climate worse, not better! And if you are insite you will catch a cold! Wahe Guru Ji ka Khalsa, wahe Guru ji ki fateh!

Respected members of SGPC, Gur Fateh!! Before taking any decision concerning Khalsa Panth please ensure that the idea holds good on Guru Ki Kasauti as each and everyone of our Panth in general and all of you ( SGPC Members) in particular who have been blessed with this divine Sewa will be answerable to Akal Purukh for all your actions. Sangat in general may not see but each one of us will HAVE to pay for our mis deeds. Hence please......please take all decisions as GURMUKHS ( to please GURU) and not as MANMUKHS ( to please VVIPs OR any particular person). Insead of wasting your valuable time in such issues like A/conditioning please find ways and means to preserve our Historical Places by not changing the basics. Old bricks, mud walls, old wells look MUCH BETTER than marble and granite. Get experts to preserve OUR HISTORY and if at all you want to spend funds collected by way of DASWANDs please ......please......please use it for Parchar and formation of Good Medical, Engineering & Management Institutions for Sikhs. The will go a long way in preserving our rich culture.

This is absolutely ridiculous. In the first place there is the physical damage to a heritage site. All over the world efforts are made to conserve and preserve historical structures in their original state. Not so in our country and more so in Punjab. The Sikh Gurus, Martyrs and other great Sikhs endured and sacrfied a lot including their own live. And we are unable to bear a few hours of heat during a visit to the Golden Temple? For those of who feel the discomfort I have one piece of advise - Don't visit Harmandir Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh intended each one of us to be equal to 1.25 lakhs of the rest. Huh ! What a lot of sissies we've turned into.

guru fathe!mein ta eh kehna chanda ha ke agar SGPC nu eh lagda ha ke AC lagne chahede han ta ohnu nu baki de jo jaruri kam han jehna wal oh dhian nahi de rahe oh v ohnu nu sochne chahede han..lyk.pehla ta parking da wadya arrengment karna chaheda ha..te guru ghar vch koi v galat kam na ho usda khayal rahkna chaheda ha puri sewa bhavna nal....waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fathe!

Thanks for thinking about Airconditioning inside Harmandar Sahib for VVVIPs and why for top politicians??? are they coming to prey??? or to do something else???. Please do not distruct our "HARMANDAR SAHIB"any more as Airconditioning will change every thing and we do not wants any kinds of changes in our 'Holy Place". If any VVVIPs is feeling hot and humidity let them bring ( if allowed ) portable A/Cs with them and take then back after he goes. I once again request you please do not allow these kinds of persons acting against our "SIKKHISM" and working against our sentiments.

darbar sahib is a architectural marvel and is constructed in such a way that in summers it remains cool and in winters its warm. so i dont think theres a dire need to take such a step risking our prime heritage.

The GREATEST of the GREAT GREAT GREAT VVVVIP IS THE GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI........all others cannot equate themselves to the GREATNESS AND the VVVVVIP STATUS.....to our GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI... therefore O' mortal if you are before GURU JI.... please do not look for air conditioners!!!!!

SGPC ...STOP.... Please do hurting the sentiments of Sikh Sangats. FACTS : 1) The gurudwara has been best designed by the Gurus & like Guru Granth Sahib, we have NO right to modify anything. 2) The design 100s years back has been so designed that the gurudwarad compex remains cool withh the Sarovar all around , the doors & windows , the height of the centre dome. Who is feeling the HEAT !!! I did not see any march or protest or complain by sangat for feeling HEATED in the Gurudwara. Today ACs , tommorow SOFAS where will u take us. Luxuries or Religion !!!!!!!! You have to Answer to God if not us !!! So think thousand times before you go ahead with any activities.

Please do not forgot the obvious ways of resolving this issue....today there are many ways in which AC's can be installed without boring holes...has anyone thought of using the water based coolers that are commonly used in homes in Australia that can be wheeled in and out of buildings!!!! No need to bore any holes...every one can be 'cooled down' and our history, hieritage, and the sanctity of it can still be preserved intact!!!...there is no harm in upgrading the comforts for all concerned without destroying the Sikh History....time to think outside the BOX!!!!..

The SGPC are custodians of this sacred shrine, they should do their utmost to preserve this gem, and not vandalise it at every ill thoughtout opportunity. When will we Sikhs realise, that at this rate, we will have no heritage left to pass on to subsequent generations.

waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh.

I can't figure out how controlling the climate will destroy the building - infact the controlled humidity will help preserve, not only the structure but the rest of our scared collection contained therein (check out other great museums of the world). Let us embrace the advance in technology and use it to our advantage where possible. Technology has advanced since the creation of our religion - let us not be left behind in darkness!

Installing aircons for the sake of the ragi jatha's and that too at the cost of such a revered place by sikhs, shouldn't even be thought of. When muslims go for haj, they walk hundreds of kilometers and fight the raging heat in the open, sleep on the bare floor at dusk all for the sake of penance and the cleansing of the soul. Sikhs are indeed a blessed lot to be able to do a pilgrimage at ease without such unfavourable conditions. That in itself is a blessing and hopefully a source of inspiration for all sikhs to visit the golden temple at least once. Again, asking for airconditioning at the expense of the structure of the golden temple, totally out of the question! Jeispreit Bajjaj Student Singapore

A/C should be installed but there should not interstruc with the Harmandar Sahib, There should use eletric fans which have the power sources from outside the Harmandar Sahib.. Like the one there have currently got to the enterance to the Harmandar Sahib.
