Among the articles under threat due to the lack of proper place to house include a copy of Zafarnama written by Guru Gobind Singh to then Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Ani-e-Akbari written by Abul Fazal, Akbarnama by Ali Ibraham Khan, a hand-written Japji Sahib, Bir Sahib and Mughal farmans. Besides, the record lying in bags in the corridors of the old Patiala Commissioner’s office include vital historical documents regarding eight princely states of Punjab, including Nabha, Patiala, Jind, Faridkot, Kapurthala and Nalagarh. It also has all old gazette notifications of the Punjab Government and paintings depicting the Anglo-Sikh war. The sources here said that in an urgency to get the building housing the archaeological building for a heritage hotel the government did not even care to find a suitable place for housing the precious historical manuscripts. It initially shifted the record to the languages department office, then to Punjabi University Library and finally to the present site of old commissioner’s office. Even today the place where the record has been housed is not permanent. The officials of the archaeological department, on condition of anonymity, said the building in which the department has been planned to be housed is still under renovation. It may take another few months before the building is completed after renovation. The scholars who use records for research purposes are sufferers of the government move. Since the records are lying now dumped in bundles they find it very difficult to trace relevant documents. They alleged since the manuscripts and documents pertaining to archaeology are very fragile the government should have initially looked for an appropriate place to house them before dislocating them. The way the entire record of the archaeological Department has been dumped in an unscientific manner speaks about the apathy of the government regarding precious historical documents. Officials of the Department of Archaeology present here said they had been given strict instructions against allowing any photographer take pictures of dumps of archaeological record. Director Archaeology Jagjit Puri said the new building that was being constructed would be declared as the state museum. The archaeological record containing vital information on the history of Punjab, Sikh religion and Mughal rule in India is threatened due to poor upkeep. The premises housing the state archives department was handed over by the previous government to a private company for the construction of a heritage hotel. The displaced department and historical documents, manuscripts and paintings are yet to be rehabilitated.

Without the absence of the precious Documents no Research activities are possible!. All over the World Old Documents and Historical Buildings & Monuments are being maintained as Cultural Historical Proofs of the ancient times and about the Old Rulers, Kings and Gurus in the ancient times. Of course it will, but at the expense of its own Indian heritage. Germany, America, Japan and England did not become developed by ignoring their rich heritage and history. Should they not have a official building to be kept in? Or given to a World Organised Library? | Any one who has moved a big library from one place to another understands that these documents are not dumped but just kept at random. The mistake on their part is not to prepare the space before dislocating the documents from their original place. Excessive handling of fragile and old documents spoil them. It is better to keep them at the place where they are presently till their proper place be arranged. We have conserved the 17th Century Sri Guru Granth Saheb, Dastar of Guru Gobind Singh ji, Khadaon of Guru Arjan Devji and Mata Ganga ji, Bed yarn of Guru Gobind Singh ji, Hukumnana of mata Sundari ji and Guru Hargobind Saheb ji, 1/2" x1/2" manuscripts of jap ji saheb, 1.5" x 1" manuscripts of kirtan sohila and many more manuscripts and other objects in hyderabad. We have organised "Three day workshop on conservation of Shri Guru Granth Saheb ji and other manuscripts on 26-28th Jan., 2007 at Guru Nanak High School, Sikh Chawniat, Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Nagar, Hyderabad. 'One day Awareness programme on Manuscripts at Guru Nanak Jhira Saheb,Bidar on 16th Feb., 2007. We are also starting a Manuscripts conservation centre at Gurudwara saheb Barambala, sikh chawniat, maharaja ranjeet singh nagar, hyderabad. the manuscripts will be conserved by using different Scientific methods of conservation as per the treatment required by the manuscripts. The few methods are Dry brushing, Re-integration of manuscripts, Aqueous Deacidification, Solvent Deacidification, Fumigation, Aqueous washing, Lamination and solvent lamination etc. after the conservation of the manuscripts we will be degitalise the manuscripts and keep it safe in our record. The manuscripts after conservation will be return back to the custodians. If they are willing we will peserve at our place for our future generation. It is the duty of every sikh to preserve our manuscripts heritage. |

Someone with power and is not as corrupt as others in the Indian government is highlighted to issue (someone like Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, minister of Ethnic affairs and president of the Lok Bhali Party, Punjab) 3. Get an estimate to have all the artifacts moved to Amritsar to be properly archived - this will require discussions with other religious orders to appreciate the time and expense they have spent. 4. Request the donations for and make it happen and get a clear idea of when this can commence and be completed. I work for many large global corporations as a senior programme manager and would be happy to invest my time and money to making this happen. Please let me know if you agree and what are your reservations. Someone above spoke about auctioning this information off but that is not a viable solution. It needs to be placed together in a protective and well managed environment. |

| It is yet again a link in the grand scheme of destroying Sikhs and their religion, just like Budhism was wiped off centuries ago. Destroy the heritage and the roots are gone, the plant will die of its own accord. Much of the historical records were destroyed at Harmandar Sahib before and after 1984, and now this? The architecture, the arts, the literature are being systematically obliterated. Not in my generation's time but in the not too distant future, I foresee Sikhs and their religion being consigned away unless we as individuals, and each one of us collectively take action, one step at a time. I mean understand and analyse what is being done to us, look at the big picture scheme of things. Start to look at one link and others will unravel themselves and we will be surprised at the long term slow death that we are headed towards. Documents will be altered and need to be put in a building which maintains proper humidity for preservation along with security. Seva is great, but here's a crazy idea, how about we pay some legitimate security guards and throw some money at establishing a building which would hold these documents. The lack of responsibilty our brothers and sisters in india towards our heritage is dispicable. Sikhism is one of the most modern/recent f religions formed. All the history of all murals on the walls of Harminder sahib are being white washed...The interior of the Harminder sahib..Sikh holy site is falling apart...Graffitti is inscribed in the walls on the second level of the harminder sahib. I have pictures to prove this. To see these historical writings being thrown around is no surprise to me at all. All NRI must put more pressure on the SGPC from having these thing happen. When the leaders of the SGPC come to our countries we must put pressure on the SGPC from having these kinds of acts from happening. We have all made our pleas to whoever is in charge of this act of vandalism to stop. Only way to stop from this happening is to stop blaming others but to stand up make those responsible pay for this disgusting pictures we see on theis site. Act NOW. Please update us with this issue |

| My suggestion is that we write to Darbar Sahib and the main Prabandhak Committee to try and get hold of the manuscripts so that they can be properly taken care of. Another thing we can do is write to the department in question and ask them not to treat our precious manuscripts so disrespectfully, and hand it over not to a private company but to our main Prabandhak Committee. |
