GGsThe Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, PVSM VSM, while releasing a book ‘Wisdom of Gurbani’, here today called upon the people to imbibe the message of humanism, secularism, peace and social equality as preached in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which is even more relevant in the present time.  The book based on Sri Guru Granth Sahib, has been authored by S. Kartar Singh Bhalla, Honorary Consul General of Nauru.

General Rodrigues said that the teachings in Sri Guru Granth Sahib synthesize the essential wisdom of all religions with a forceful message of the empowerment of women, gender equality, concern for serving the poor and downtrodden, a sense of fellow feelings and above all a love for humanity. He said that the solution to every social problem lies in the sacred Vani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib but somehow we have lost our way. For example, he said that the unethical practice of female foeticide is a major issue of societal concern these days. There is a need of serious introspection and to help us put the principles, enshrined in the holy Granth, into practice, in our lives, with sincerity and faith.

General Rodrigues said that the time has come for us to stop talking and for taking practical steps for tackling the basic issues coming in the way of our development and growth. He said that our Country has achieved a unique status, in different areas in the world. He said that future of our Country is in our hands and we have to create opportunities for our people and to guide their endeavour, to enable them to contribute in our developmental process.  He said that we have the necessary resources and talent and the need is to change our attitudes & mindset, to develop their potential.  He said that we have to work together, with commitment and determination and set an example of peaceful and harmonious living for the rest of the world by practicing the message in Guru Granth Sahib.

Appreciating the effort of S. Kartar Singh Bhalla for compiling this book, General Rodrigues said that it will help in propagating the progressive teaching of Sri Guru Granth Sahib besides helping in promoting emotional integration and mutual understanding among people of different faiths.

Kartar Singh Bhalla, in his welcome address highlighted the features of the book and said that  the book is a complication of 721 selected versus from Sri Guru Granth Sahib translated in Roman and Hindi (Devnagri) to enable the non-gurmukhi knowing readers to have the flavour and understanding of Gurbani.   He said that Guru Granth Sahib contains 5894 hymns composed by six Gurus, fifteen Bhagats (Hindu holy men and Muslim Sufis) and bards.  All the Gurus merged their identity by signing themselves as Nanak.

Jean Rodrigues, Major General (Retd.) Ranjit Singh , Mr. Jasbir Singh Bir, Managing Director, CITCO and distinguished people from different walks of life attended the ceremony.
