Having converted all these buildings into mosoleums we hear of "Ajooba" and Minar-e-Khalsa and other pits to sink the Sikh money in. What we need today is technical training institutes which can make our youth face the tough competition in this fast shrinking world. A watchdog committee of scholars should be set up to study anything from an article to a book and research thesis for any anti-Sikh or writings that don't conform to the Sikh tenets. People should be warned of such writings by pointing out the errors and lapses. There should be a research cell to work continuously on all subjects connected with Sikhs and Sikhism, whether historical or theological. Preachers who are well versed in comparative study of religions should be trained. About the standard of Kirtan, less said the better, especially the one relayed from Harmandir Sahib. When all the Bani is set in various ragas, I have yet to hear kirtan in the ragas. Gurudev Tagore is said to have remarked that stealing is a bad thing but if he had to steal, he would steal ragis from Harmandir Sahib. Situation then and now is before us. For me it would be an "ajooba" (wonder) if I can see a 50 year old historic Gurdwara in Punjab. We have invited architects of world fame to plan and make buildings that would last centuries. They don't know the Sikh capability of destroying its heritage and culture. Just 300 years ago the Khalsa was initiated. Was that done in a marble-laid mansion' Where is the "garhi" of Chamkaur where the 10th Master put up fight against the mighty Mughals' These architects don't know the might of hammer of the kar-sewa dals. Communities, people all over the world, take pride in preserving old buildings, mosques, temples and churches. But only recently Gurdwaras of Moti Bagh and Bahadurgarh (Patiala) were put to the hammer. Let us not waste our money on unfruitful ventures. The real celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Khalsa would lie in providing opportunity to our youth to earn a respectable living. May the 10th Master grant us the wisdom and guide us to save our resources in order to channelise them towards the betterment of the Khalsa rather than wasting these on concrete that could fall prey to the hammer of a whimsical Baba anytime.
