Punjab CM to lead delegation for the Kuka Movement PDF Print E-mail

Ram SinghPunjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday offered to lead a delegation in New Delhi to impress upon the Prime Minister of India and other concerned quarters to include the historic 'Kuka Movement' in the list of the movements of the Indian freedom struggle.

An assurance to this effect was given by Badal to the Namdhari Samaj on the 193rd 'Parkash Utsav' of Satguru Baba Ram Singh ji at his native village Bhaini Sahib at a state level function organized by the Punjab government under the auspicious of Satguru Baba Jagjit Singh ji.   

Felicitating the people on the historic occasion, Badal asked the people to follow the teachings of Satguru Baba Ram Singh ji as he was a great revolutionary and a pioneer of the non-cooperation movement which ultimately pawed a way for the national freedom struggle.

He said that he would not only impress the Prime Minister to give due importance to the Kuka Movement but also urge him to organize a valedictory function of the year long celebrations of 150th years of the Kuka movement.

Badal said 'it is all the more important to organize this function in the national perspective to give due recognisition to the Kuka Movement which is an integrated part of the national independence movement and is not merely restricted to Namdharis rather all of us should participate in such functions organized to pay homage to the great Kuka martyrs who made unprecedented and supreme sacrifices'.

           
Earlier, the Chief Minister released the book in Punjabi tiled 'Kuka Andolan De Namdhari Shaheed' authored by Suba Surinder Kaur Kharl besides releasing a set of books published by the State Information & Public Relations Department in Punjabi titled 'Desh Di Azadi Sangarsh De Surakh Patre' written by S.Swaran Singh Virk and a colored pictorial brochure on the saga of Kuka Andolan.

          
In his address President of Namdhari Samaj HS Hanspal urged Badal to publicize the Kuka movement through getting the text books authored from eminent historians and academicians to bring awareness amongst the students about the Kuka movement on one hand and infuse the spirit of patriotism and nationalism amongst our future generation on the other.

           
Speaking on the occasion Vice President of the Namdhari Samaj Surinder Singh Namdhari appreciated the Chief Minister for making concerted efforts and taking personal initiative for the commemoration of 150th year of the Kuka Andolan through out that the state in a befitting manner.  He also expressed his gratitude to Badal for declaring the 193rd Parkash Utsav of Satguru Baba Ram Singh ji as a state level function.

         
Prominent amongst others who were spoke on the occasion included former Chief Minister Haryana Om Parkash Chautala, Member Parliament Avinash Khanna, Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Tarlochan Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda and Veteran Akali Leader Kuldip Singh Wadala.

Those who attended the function included MLA Kumkalan Ishar Singh, Ex-Minister Jagdish Singh Garcha, Vice President SAD Amarjit Singh Bhatia, District President SAD Ludhiana Santa Singh Umedpur, Ex-Minister Jagdev Singh Tejpuri, Mayor Ludhiana Hakam Singh Giaspuri and former Chairman SSS  Board Tajinderpal Singh Sandhu besides the leaders and party workers of SAD-BJP.
