The district administration has finalised a proposal to provide pre-paid taxi facility at the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh.Besides, the Galiara project, aimed at beautifying the vicinity of the Golden Temple, is likely to be completely handed over to a private company, which, so far, was working on about one-fourth area of the project. These decisions were taken at a joint meeting of deputy commissioner K.S. Pannu, municipal commissioner D.P.S. Kharbanda and SSP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh here today. Two SGPC members, Jaswinder Singh Advocate and Rajinder Singh Mehta, participated in it. Kharbanda told The Tribune that it was also decided that a joint crackdown would be carry out on encroachments in the vicinity of the Golden Temple to easy traffic congestion. “An anti-encroachment drive would be launched to remove makeshift shops and illegal kiosks in the walled city area. A proposal was put forth at the meeting to allow only one-way traffic on the Katra Ahliwalia market road,” he said. Launched in 1988, the Galiara project is still in its fifth phase.
