Veteran journalist and former Member of Parliament Kuldip Nayyar said there should be one common market from Iran to Burma while keeping regional and national diversities. All borders should only be laqeers (lines). India has good relations with Iran and Afghanistan.

Nayyar sadly hinted that history being taught in region is full of hatred. History writing should be assigned to International Commission and we should strive for a new region full of democratic values and secular ethos.

Nayyar was here to inaugurate an international session of 28th All India Persian Teachers Conference at Guru Nanak Bhawan of the Guru Nanak Dev University. This conference is being held by the Department of Guru Nanak Studies of the University in collaboration with All India Persian Teachers Association.

S.M. Nabi Zadeh, The Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayed Makhdoom Raheen, The Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti of Akal Takhat Sahib who participated in the inaugural session of the conference also expressed their views. Professor Dr. Jai Rup Singh, Vice-Chancellor welcomed the dignitaries and the delegates. Dr. R.S. Bawa, Registrar also presented his views.

Nayyar hoped the proper functioning of democracy in Iran and Afghanistan would enrich cultural interaction in Asia He said if we lose our spiritual heritage, we would lose everything.
Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib in his blessings highlighted the importance of Persian in the verses of Guru Gobind Singh in Zafarnama and writings of Bhai Nand Lal in particular and Sikh religion in general. He wished that the Persian scholars would help in the analysis of the Bani and Sikh religion. He said best classical and other literature has been written in Persian language.

S.M Nabi Zadeh, Ambassador of Iran in India in his address said the Persian language has preserved the history of India's 800 years. Our heritage is common and the Persian language has flourished in India. He wanted that attempts should be made to promote and develop the Persian language in India.

Expressing his views, Dr. S Makhdoom Raheen, Ambassador of Afghanistan in India said that Afghanistan has close relations with India. He said before Islam there was Budhism in Afghanistan and Brahamins ruled the people there. He said that Afghanistan had produced a number of Sufi Saints. He on behalf of President of Afghanistan, Ahmed Karzai congratulated the Guru Nanak Dev University for hosting the 28th International session of this conference.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Jai Rup Singh said that Persian language impregnated with spiritual, literacy and artistic values .He said its contribution towards the enrichment of the world's fund of literature, mysticism and wisdom is immense.

Prof. (Ms.) Azarmi Dukht Safavi, President of the All-India Persian Teachers Association in her presidential address pointed out that the All-India Persian Teacher's Association much needed opportunity to teachers, scholars and lovers of Persian which are in great abundance in India.
Professor Safavi underlined that the seed of Personalization of North-Western India was sowed during the early Sultanate times. Multan was the first city to adopt the Persian. Then Lahore emerged as the centre of Persian and literature.

Eminent Persian Scholars-Professor Pritam Singh, Dr. Mahdi Khawaja Peeri and Dr. Amarwant Singh were honoured for their contribution to Persian studies in this conference. Professor Dr. Jai Rup Singh received the award on behalf of his father Professor Pritam Singh. Professor Mrs. Azarmi Dukht Safavi, President of AIPTC read out the citations about these scholars.

The Vice-Chancellor also honoured Mr. Zadeh, Mr.Raheen and other dignitaries by presenting them sets of University Publications. Dr. R.S Bawa, Registrar proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Shashi Bala Co-ordinator of the Conference while giving the detailed outline about the conference said that more than 150 delegates from India. Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan are participating in this conference
