New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for the transfer of Gobindgarh Fort at Amritsar to the State Government of Punjab and said that the heritage fort will be declared as protected.
The transfer of the Gobindgarh Fort would include the fort measuring approximately 30 acres, along with additional land measuring 2.81 acres near the fort without any cost and encumbrances.
In addition the State Government will build the road that would give access to the public to the fort, the Cabinet said.
Government of Punjab will also construct a security wall, with security lights, along the perimeter of the fort abutting the defence land.
The heritage fort will be declared as protected monument as it has a long Sikh history, the Cabinet said.
