The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has not yet closed the chapter of airconditioning of the Darbar Sahib at the Golden Temple. “The issue is still not closed and we are exploring all possible options. If it is viable without causing any damage to the heritage, it would be done”, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said here today. He further added that expert opinions were being sought about preserving the heritage as well as modernising the facilities there. “I am a strong votary of preserving the heritage and will not allow anybody to cause any damage to it”, he said. “Even if the sanctum sanctorum was to be air conditioned, none of its four gates would be closed”, he said. Makkar maintained that the SGPC was well aware about its responsibility towards preserving the sanctity of Darbar Sahib and the glorious heritage. He appealed to the people to submit their suggestions to the SGPC in writing so that a viable and practical opinion can be framed. | ||||||

| Please think about the other alternatives/option of including chilled water system all around the main temple, chilling water system under the floor will not only cool the parkarma area but will also cool main darbar hall from the bottom of the base slab. Chilled/ hot water system is one of the best solution to overcome this problem without distubing the old heritage. |
