The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), which has decided to establish heritage museum on its campus, is perhaps ignorant about the oldest dome-shaped heritage structures in the varsity premises itself. Perhaps no official of the university has ever bothered to visit the site otherwise they would have found the treasure trove with little efforts. The priceless fresco painting in the tomb of four descendants of Fateh Singh - one of the generals in the army of legendary Maharaja Ranjit Singh situated in varsity premises are slowly vanishing from the interior walls due to negligence of the administration and the GNDU authorities.
The paintings depicting Lord Krishan and his friend and devotee Sudama on the outer walls of the tombs have already been damaged due to vagaries of weather and irresponsible behavior of the visitors who had engraved their names on the walls. The paintings just above the floor have been damaged as the plaster has chipped off from the walls. The renovation work, carried out from time to time has revealed that the care-takers of the heritage structures themselves had shown scant regard for the precious wall paintings. A portion at the centre of the floor has been dug out. These tombs are of descendants of Fateh Singh and his relatives. These samadhs remained out of reach for common people as there was no pathway to reach these historical artifacts. The main and bigger tomb out of the four having the wall paintings was locked with iron doors that too are cracked and damaged by rust at various places. It is perhaps for this reason that the major portion of the invaluable frescos remained intact and could be preserved by taking immediate steps by repairing the damaged ones. The fungus has blackened the face of the samadh and the Iron Gate at the main. The tombs are built of Nanakshahi bricks. The platform around the tombs have also been damaged with passage of time. Even the water pool constructed during the reign of the Maharaja has almost disappeared and the wild grass has swathed not only the tombs but whole of the area. The outer walls of the dome depict the architectural marvel of the seventeenth century. Some of the young heritage enthusiasts who visit the tombs almost daily have installed small flags near the main tomb. They said that something should be done by the Department of cultural affairs, archaeology and museums to save them keeping in view their importance as part of national heritage. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

just wanted to point out that sixth guru is guru har gobind singh ji not harkrishan

Shri Har Krishan ji was 8th guru not sixth

Sir, please tell us where we can found the above structure in GNDU. It spread over acres and being a student of GNDU have never seen any ancient monument out there. Please help us to locate the old architectural moment and we students will try to bring kind notice of the always sleeping admin and will try to visit the place with architecture students and the concerned department too.

correct the error you madedalbirgill, the sixth guru ji were siri guru har gohind sabhji not siri guru har gobind singh ji.

waheguru ji ka khalas , waheguru ji ki fateh...... once again no one care for the sikhs and our precious culture and artifacts... please we urge you to hep resolve these issues and help us preserve our culture and artifacts instead of wandering off into maya and domestic things... this is very important to preserve such things.. so we kindly ask you to help restore and please dont neglect... like i always have stated... the sikhs have always helped others in need so help us for once... please note ... yes the "6th guru was dhan sri guru hargobhind ji maharaaj"... ""not" dhan sri guru hargobind "singh"... it was the 10th guru dhan sri guru gobind singh ji. to have the "singh" pronounced after his precious status... and a note to the administrater please correct your mistake! the 6th sacha paatshah was dhan dhan sri guru hargobind ji maharaaj... not the 5th king dhan dhan sri gur harkrishan ji maharaaj but please dont get angry for dalbir gills mistake ,,, as it was just a mistake.. we all make mistakes and learn from them.. thats what sikhism is learning everday and putting things right.. thus destroying maya.. remember keep sikhi alive and always abide by "dhan dhan sri guru granth sahib ji" maharaaj the true guru and bow to noone else.... other my precious khalsa brothers and sisters

i just made a mistake as well.......... please forgive me ...... dhan dhan sri guru harkrishan ji maharaaj was the 8th guru,... i repeat the 8th guru. the 8th true king....... i meant to write the 8th.. but by mistake i wrote the 5th!! please forgive me .... but everything else in the above comment is correct like i said the 8th guru to make his divine presence within this world was "" dhan dahn sri guru harkrishan ji maharaaj" the 5th guru was... "" dhan dhan sri guru arjan dev ji maharaaj"" please forgive me my khalsa brothers and sisters

it's very distressing to see our heritage been neglected.I'm sure the authorities at the golden temple can make some donation in the up keeping of these paintings.

i seek to thanx for everybody who give us this whole nice informations.

Even if there are any anciet structures, GNDU should and must preserve structures related to sikh history or gurmat.ONLY. Guru Nanak dev ji's principle of raising voice of one supreme lord, would get contradicted if university run under his name depicts/ displays structures of hindu gods/legends, or of persons who were not mingled with ik onkar
