Amritsar. The SGPC has been contemplating engaging experts for the renovation of the nine-storey Gurdwara Baba Atal, adjoining the Golden Temple complex to protect priceless frescos and the building design during the kar seva.
Earlier, the kar seva, carried out by babas to repair age-old murals at the gurdwara, and repair work of historical Ramgarhia Bungas in the Golden Temple complex had raked up a controversy. The murals on the first floor had been replaced with the bathroom tiles then.
The SGPC chief said he would hold meetings with experts, Sikh intellectuals before allowing the kar seva.
Interior walls of the first floor of the gurdwara have murals depicting the Sikh history. Less than 100 panels of murals are left on the first floor while the rest exist beyond recognition.
The murals would be repaired with colours and materials used by original artists.
